A friend and colleague of Arthurs Simon Hill of the Automatic Vending Association had suggested last year that we organise a HIKE in his memory. The following is what we have come up with. Big thanks to Simon for all his hard work.

The walk will be on April 17th & 18th 2010

The route we have decided to do is the Fife costal path (www.fifecoastalpath.co.uk).
Stages 1-5 are exactly 51 miles! (Arthurs age one mile for every year).  We have decided to do it in reverse (stages 5-1) this means we will start in Crail and end at the Forth bridges which is a fantastic finish line
(and for those that knew him the Forth bridges were a punch line to one of Arthurs favourite jokes)

Sat 17th April

We will start on Sat 17th at Crail Harbour meeting at 7.00 am for a warm up with a 7.30 start in mind. We will end walking on the Saturday 26 miles later in Wemyss. Transport has been arranged to rally people back to their cars or homes/Hotels

As a number of people will be travelling up from South of the border we have arranged accommodation at the Sands Hotel in Burntisland.

On Saturday evening we have booked the function hall at the Sands Hotel where a meal will be provided as the walkers return.  (Please fill out the attached form if you intend to join us for the evening meal)

***

The evening meal and wine has been very generously sponsored by ‘AUTOMATIC RETAILING NORTHERN’ A huge thanks go out to Neil and Wendy Templeman.

We will also be having a ‘FEW ‘Beers in the Bar to numb those aches and pains for any interested parties!!! Only one condition you only get ‘HALF JAKED’

***

AG BARR have offered to sponsor the event with water and energy drinks so we will have refreshments along the way to help keep everyone going.

Huge thanks to Matt Yates and his team for the support.

Sun 18th April

For those who have stayed over transport will be arranged to get us back to Wemyss for the Sunday morning 7.30 am for a warm up with a 8.00am start.

The walk will then MARCH on to the finish point at The Forth Bridges a SHORT 25 mile later. Again we will ensure everyone gets back to where they need to be if required.

There is no doubt it is going to be tough but there is plenty of time if you START training NOW we can all do it.

You don’t have to do the whole walk even a few miles would be great. We have some people doing it as part of a relay team, some doing the Saturday only etc etc . It’s up to you but please get involved.

We really can’t emphasize enough that although we would like to raise some money for charity the walk itself is more in honor of Arthurs memory, he was such a huge character who loved walking and took part in many charity walks himself so it seems like a fitting tribute!

FUND RAISING

We would like to try and raise as much money as we can for charities that supported Arthur and his family when he was ill. A suggested amount for sponsorship is £25 per person which would be great.  Alternately if you are only walking part of the way and do not wish to get sponsors, a donation of £10 would be gratefully received.  We have sponsor sheets available, all money raised will be donated to Kirkcaldy Hospice & MACMILLAN Cancer Support, Sponsor money can be handed in at the event or should be sent to Myrtle Coffee Services Ltd no later than 17th May 2010.

Please fill out the registration form attached so we can arrange logistics etc state if you require accommodation and food for the Saturday night, THIS MUST be received prior to taking part, forms in no later than 1st of April 2010.

Caroline, Lisa and Kevin would like to thank everyone for getting involved and wish everyone the very best of luck.

TIME TO GET TRAINING!

We have around 30 confirmed at the moment and the numbers are going up daily. Please let us know if you need help getting accommodation
