The Ecology Centre

A local company is doing their bit for the environment, and helping to support work with teenagers at the same time. When Myrtle Coffee Services, based in Burntisland, wanted to improve their environmental profile, they decided to sponsor the tree planting programme for The Ecology Centre in Kinghorn.
Centre manager, Ronnie Mackie, said 'Working in partnership with local businesses is something we like to encourage and this relationship with Myrtle Coffee Services helps us to achieve our targets.'
The business supplied The Ecology Centre with EIGHT HUNDRED TREES, many of which will be planted around Kinghorn Loch or in local schools. Some of them will be used in training teenagers to improve their lives and give them work experience.
Managing Director Mark Braid stated 'We are delighted to be able to make a positive contribution to the environment and to our local community. We have many schemes to help our customers do there bit for the environment. From energy saving devices which can be fitted on all of our Coffee equipment, to cup recycling and collection schemes which help to reduce our customers waste to landfill'

Vendsense
The Vend Sense Energy Management System uses microprocessor technology and PIR sensors to switch off the power to any coffee or snack machine when no motion is detected within it's vicinity, within a pre-set timescale.
Vend Sense can be retro fitted to any piece of vending or catering equipment, the device can help cut energy usage by up to 60%. Giving great benefit to our environment as well as showing huge financial savings to our clients.
Minima
Are you doing your bit?
Minima crushes plastic bottles, aluminium and steel cans at point of use bwith a capacity in excess of 80 crushed cans
- Think throwing out a plastic bottle will make it go away?
- A plastic bottle will take 700 years before it will even start to decompose.
- A used aluminum can is recycled and back on the grocery shelf as a new can in as little as 60 days.
- Recycling the UK's plastics in 2007 saved 684,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions, the equivalent of taking more than 216,000 cars off the road.
- Throwing away an aluminum can wastes as much energy as pouring out 70% of that can's volume in petrol.
- Recycling 1 tonne of steel is the equivalent of 80% of the CO2 emissions produced when the iron ore was originally produced.
- 1 tonne of recycled aluminium saves 9 tonnes of CO2 or 23,000 vehicle miles.

All of our major machines Producers/Importers have come together under a not-for-profit company - c10c - to act together to discharge WEEE obligations in the most economic way.
MCS have been a member of the scheme since July 2007.
RoHS
Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment.
Our proffered equipment suppliers comply with RoHS, Which has a positive effect on our environment when equipment has reached the end of its life cycle and must be disposed off.
Continuous Improvement
MCS will continuously seek to improve its environmental performance year on year.
MCS hold the AVA Accreditation Certification which ensures compliance with AVA guidelines on the environment.
Product Development
Power Saving Software - Machines ranges are benefiting from the introduction of power saving software resulting in a substantial decrease in power usage. Helping companies reduce their carbon foot print, save money on running costs and be kinder to our environment.
MCS Environment
MCS has an extensive programme to ensure that it limits its contribution to the UK's ever expanding landfill sites.
- All paper waste on site is recycled
- All polythene waste on site is recycled
- All cardboard packaging is brought back to MCS after product delivery, compressed, bound in bundles and removed by a recycling company.
- Office consumables such as glass & ink cartridges are recycled.
- Exhausted fluorescent lighting is collected for recycling.
- MCS facilitates the recycling of batteries and mobile phones. We are migrating to reusable packaging where possible.
- We use bio-degradable packaging where possible.
ALUPRO/SAVE A CAN RECYCLE
Aluminium can recycling scheme using local companies to recycle drinks cans helping to cut CO2 emissions and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.
PAPER & POLYTHENE RECYCLING
All cardboard & polythene brought back to warehouse and bailed and uplifted by local recycling company helping to cut CO2 emissions and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.
